Law firm CEO appointed as Visiting Lecturer

May 23, 2016

Hilary Meredith, CEO of Hilary Meredith Solicitors, has been appointed as a visiting senior lecturer by the University of Chester's Westminster Centre for Research and Innovation in Veterans' Wellbeing.

The Westminster Centre for Research and Innovation in Veterans' Wellbeing supports the military through innovative and high quality research, educational provision and community engagement.

Commenting on her appointment, Hilary Meredith said:

"I am honoured to take up this role.  The Westminster Centre has a hugely positive impact on veteran's health and healthcare on a regional, national and international level."

Dealing with high profile injury cases on behalf of the UK armed services worldwide, Hilary brought the first ever case against the MoD in 1988 setting a legal precedent.  She has continued to act for members of the armed forces - and their families - ever since and was this year instrumental in the Commons Defence Committee recommending that the Ministry of Defence (MoD) should be charged with corporate manslaughter and lose its Crown immunity when there is a blatant disregard for life in training exercises.

Hilary also recently commissioned a major report on life on "Civvy Street" for former members of the UK armed forces.  The findings paint a bleak picture of service personnel being medically discharged because of their injuries – yet unable to find paid employment or buy their own home and struggling financially.  In perhaps the most shocking finding of all, the majority were not actually injured during combat situations.
